About Farmingdale United Methodist Women

Our Purpose: To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons, through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.

Farmingdale UMW is open to all women of any age with a commitment to:

  • grow in Christian faith
  • care for and support one another
  • do mission, which is God's work in the world, both locally and globally.

Some of the mission activities in which the women have been involved include:

  • The making of Health & School kits for Church World Service
  • Collection of Campbell's labels for the Henderson settlement in Kentucky
  • Christmas gifts delivered to Children's Home in Binghamton, NY- Wyoming Conference
  • The sale of CWS blankets
  • Supporting Project Linus- knitting, crocheting, quilting blankets for children in hospitals

The United Methodist Women meet as a single group once a month, every Tuesday evening usually at 7:00 pm, for inspiring and stimulating programs. They also meet monthly in smaller groups known as circles. There are several circles that the women may choose to attend:

Blue and White Circle

The members of this circle are older ladies with young ideas. They have only three active members at this time, but we are praying that more ladies will join them to keep their fellowship active. They meet at the homes of members for a bag lunch on the 4th Thursday of each month. The hostess is responsible for the dessert and beverage.
They have been studying the Children of the Bible.

Gold Circle

The Gold Circle is a group of caring women. They are dedicated to the purpose of the UMW and to church service. The Circle meets on the third Tuesday of each month at noon in the UMW room in the educational building of the church and enjoy lunch together and their time together is a combination of study, prayer and fellowship. They have recently been studying about the Islam religion.

Martha/Mary Circle

The Martha/Mary Circle is a group of women whose emphasis is on both Christian study and service. This circle meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm in the UMW room of the education building at the church or in member's homes. The meetings combine prayer, fellowship, and either a discussion or a project. At present, discussing their favorite Bible verses.

Paisley Circle

This circle meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at church or at a member's home. Regular meetings are at 7 pm and dinner meetings are at 6 pm. They follow the purpose of UMW by:

  • Growing as Christians through Bible study.
  • Supporting each other's concerns through topical discussions and prayer.
  • Serving the church hostessing coffee hour and volunteering to usher during the Church service.
  • Reaching out to fellow sisters within the church who are in need.
Teen Circle

Their membership include high school and college young women committed to serving God by doing mission work in their own exciting and unique ways. They have taken over the collection of Campbell product labels and sending them to the Hendersen Settlement in Kentucky. They also sponsored a Souper Bowl Sunday - all monies collected used to buy food to different local mission projects. They had a car wash along with members of the High School Sunday School- raised monies for the "Make a Wish Foundation". Their advisors keep them focused. They meet the 1st Sunday of every month after church in UWM room.

THANK YOU: For United Methodist Women, faith and action go hand in hand. As we study and work together, we make our faith come alive. And, we do make a difference!
