Feb. 20, 2005

Dear friends,

This Sunday morning after Worship in the Library, Dr. Sal Frasca of the National Marriage Centers will be our guest. Dr Frasca will introduce us to two programs designed to help those in our community undergoing the stress of divorce. As a church, we are considering whether or not we want to be involved in providing space for these programs. If you would like to hear or have concerns, plan to attend.

Sincerely,
Pastor Eldon Simpson

SUNDAY NIGHT LENTEN PROGRAMS CONTINUE THIS SUNDAY, FEB. 20

LENTEN MEDITATION BOOKLETS for reading during each day of Lent up until Easter are available in the South Transept.

COFFEE FOR SALE: Organic, fair trade certified coffee, will be available during Coffee Hour this Sunday. We sell it at cost, as a convenience to those who wish to support fair trade. Regular is $5 a bag, Decaf is $6.

ORGAN RECITAL: Saturday, APRIL 9, 7-10:30 PM. We will welcome "EYEWITNESS," an 8-member band whose musical style is Contemporary Christian. SAVE THE DATE!

A SECOND CHANCE Remember the special altar cloth for which we were collecting fabric from the congregation? Lisa Bell has been hard at work designing the cloth and she is able to accept more fabric at this time. So, if you have not yet given us a piece of fabric from your life which would represent you or your family on the altar of God, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE! The design and construction of the "Altar Cloth of Our Lives" is extremely challenging because there is no uniformity to any of the fabrics which are going into the making of it. (Like us . . . all different!) But, when it is finished by this fall, it will have been worth the wait, because it will be a "one-of-a-kind" masterpiece offered to the Glory of God! BE A PART OF IT! A box for your fabric will be in the south transept. If you have questions, speak to Lisa Bell or Violet Simpson. P.S. With your fabric, please include a note telling why that fabric has meaning to you.

THANK YOU to Navy Chaplain Laura Bender for being with us this past Sunday and to Violet Simpson for making all of the arrangements and hosting Chaplain Bender and her husband.

THE UM WOMEN need you! We will continue to collect Kit items throughout the Lenten season; however, we would like to send as may kits as soon as possible due to the overwhelming need of victims of earthquake and tsunamis. If each of you helps just a bit, we know we can reach our goal. Lists of items needed and a box to deposit items collected are in the South Transept. Thank you!

IN NEED OF PRAYERS: Tomas Maldonado, Steve & Audrey Nowotarski, Barbara Simpson, Jayant Singh, and our service personnel and others in and around Iraq who are caught in the continuing conflict.

UMW BOOKS ARE MISSING from the book lending cart. They have been gone for a long time. If you have any, please return them so someone else may borrow them. Thank you for your cooperation!

OUR CONDOLENCES to Joyce Aponte and family upon the death of Joyce's father, John Morral; to Dennis Bensen upon the death of his brother, David; to Peggy Lopez upon the death of her mother, Nettie MacMullan; and to Praveen and Kamuud Misra on the death of their brother, Kunj, in India. "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED."

THANK YOU: "I want to thank my church family for all of the cards, prayers and support that Joe and I received on the death of my father. Sincerely, Joyce Aponte"

"My sincere thanks to the UM Men for the dinner in memory of my husband Carl. A special thanks to Chefs Jeff Malecki and Garry Wurth, to the young people who served and to Jeff James for the kind words remembering Carl. I was deeply touched. Thank you, Joan Ganz"

"What a wonderful party on January 30. I will always remember it: the flowers, the refreshments and the beautiful cake and all the wonderful friends. Please tell all how wonderful everything was and how I appreciate it. Very grateful, Mabel Greenwidge"
