Dear Friends:
This Sunday is Christian Education Sunday. It is a day on which we celebrate and lift up not only the importance of nurturing our faith and growing in Christ but also loving God with our minds - employing our intellectual capacities to honor and serve God.
During worship we will recognize the Church School teachers, the graduates, and announce the winners of the Skip Newman Scholarship.
Regarding a great legacy of our church, please read the following tribute given by Harold Loudon, who knew and served with Skip.
Those who wish to honor Skip's memory and support the youth of our church can give anytime to the FUMC Newman Scholarship Fund which grants scholarship(s) of $500 to qualified candidate(s) each year.

IN LOVING MEMORY: HUGH "SKIP" NEWMAN SCHOLARSHIP
At his untimely death in March 1994, Skip Newman bequeathed to Farmingdale United Methodist Church, a legacy of unmatched godly commitment to its membership, its youth, and all others whom he could inspire. He was a teacher to many, a tireless mentor to the young, a counselor to people in distress, and a friend to all those who were in search of the Christian way. After military service as a "green beret", Skip returned to his roots and for many years volunteered his services as a line fireman at Farmingdale's Main Street Fire Station.
It is in recognition and remembrance of the love and work of this deeply religious man, that the youth of this church is celebrated in scholarship. Accordingly, those who were selected to receive this award through prayerful consideration are encouraged to embrace life and the work of God as tirelessly as did Hugh (Skip) Newman. - Harold Loudon
