Dear Friends,
Our hearts sank when we heard about the unspeakable tragedy at Virginia Tech. Everyday precious lives are lost to violence and war. Instead of asking, "Why?" we can cry out to God, "Arise, O Lord, and release Your power. Scatter Your foes. Strengthen us to do Your will."
When Nehemiah learned that the wall of Jerusalem had been broken down and the gates had been burned with fire, he "sat down and wept and mourned . . . fasted and prayed before the God of heaven" (Neh. 1:3-5). As he looked to God, Nehemiah led his people to rebuild the wall and rebuild their lives. May we follow Nehemiah's example in times like these by faithfully looking to God in prayer and diligently serving God by serving those in need in Christ's name.
Because Christ Lives,

The New Service begins this Sunday, 4/29 at 11:30 AM!
PRAYER FOR THE NEW SERVICE
Gracious God, our Heavenly Father, You are almighty and worthy of all our praise. You take delight in those who trust in You and choose to work in response to the prayers of Your servants. We lift up the New Service that You will bless & use it to draw new & untapped people to our church for experience of grace and new life in Christ. Grant that we may experience afresh renewal and growth in our faith and in our church as we trust You to work in and through us in this new effort.
Empower us with the Holy Spirit & work through us to accomplish Your will together and advance Your Kingdom purposes to proclaim Christ and His love to others. We thank You in advance for what You will do through us for Your glory and for Your church. We pray in the powerful name of Jesus our Risen Lord. Amen.
REFLECTION ON STEWARDSHIP This year's "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life."
